Decarb time and temperature guide
Decarbing activates the THC in your flower before you infuse. Pick an approach below to see the right oven time and temperature.

in a preheated oven
The classic balance of potency and flavour. A reliable starting point for most flower.
- 1. Break flower into small, even pieces and spread on a parchment-lined tray.
- 2. Bake at the temperature above for the listed time, stirring once halfway.
- 3. The flower should turn light golden-brown. Cool before infusing.
Ovens vary, so treat these as starting points. Use an oven thermometer for accuracy, and remember to start low and go slow once you cook.
Once your flower is decarbed, turn it into cannabutter or infused oil.
Frequently asked questions
What is decarboxylation?
Decarboxylation, or decarb, is gently heating cannabis so its THCA converts into active THC. Without it, edibles made from raw flower have very little effect. It is the first step before any infusion.
Do I really need to decarb before making edibles?
Yes, if you are starting from raw flower. Baking a recipe is not reliable enough on its own, so decarbing first is what makes a homemade edible actually work.
What temperature is best for decarbing?
A common balance is around 115 C (240 F) for about 40 minutes. Slightly lower and slower keeps more terpenes and flavour; slightly hotter is faster but less forgiving. Use the guide above to pick an approach.
Does decarbing in the oven smell?
Yes, expect a noticeable aroma. Good ventilation helps, and sealing the flower in an oven-safe covered dish can reduce it while keeping the heat even.
