Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Canabee collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It covers both the Canabee website at canabee.ca (the “Site”) and the Canabee mobile app for iOS and Android (the “App”).
The Canabee mobile app
The App collects more than the Site because it offers accounts and personalized features. When you use the App, we collect and process:
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, your date of birth (to verify you meet the legal age for cannabis in your region), and your country. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from that provider. This data is stored securely with Google Firebase.
Content you create. Recipes you save, collections, meal plans, grocery lists, journal entries, dosage and infusion history, cooking history, community posts, comments, and strain reviews are stored in your account so the App can sync them across your devices.
Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used (screens viewed, features used, approximate location, device type) so we can improve it. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the App’s settings.
Advertising. The free version of the App shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads under Google’s privacy policy. Canabee PRO subscribers do not see ads.
Purchases. Subscriptions are processed by Apple, Google, and our subscription partner RevenueCat. We receive subscription status (not your payment details; we never see your card number) so we can unlock PRO features.
AI chat.Questions you ask the in-app Canabee AI assistant are processed by Google’s Gemini models via Firebase to generate answers. Don’t include personal information in your questions.
AI features. Some features send what you give them to Google’s Gemini models through Google Firebase to produce a result. When you use the pantry scan, the photo you take or choose is sent to identify the ingredients in it. When you use smart search, the words you type are sent to understand your request. Matching recipes come from Canabee’s own library. Canabee does not store these photos or searches, and they are not used to identify you. Don’t photograph people or personal documents with the pantry scan.
Voice control. If you turn on voice control in Cook Mode, the App asks for microphone and speech recognition permission and listens for short commands such as “next step”. Speech is converted to text by your phone’s speech recognition service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android), which may process audio under their own privacy policies. Canabee never records or stores your audio. Listening stops when you turn voice control off or leave Cook Mode.
Performance data. We use Firebase Performance Monitoring to measure how quickly the App starts and loads screens and content, together with device model, operating system and country, so we can make it faster. It follows the same opt-out as analytics.
Community moderation.Posts and comments you publish to the community feed, including photos, are automatically checked by Google’s Gemini models against our community rules (for example, no selling cannabis, no content involving minors). Content that breaks the rules is removed from the feed and kept for review. Photos you post are public, as before.
Notifications. If you enable notifications, we store a device token to send you reminders you set (such as cooking timers and tolerance-break reminders) and occasional updates about new recipes, at most one a day. You can turn notifications off in your device settings.
Crash and diagnostics data. We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostics so we can fix bugs. We scrub personal information from these reports.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time from the App: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and everything linked to it from our servers, including saved recipes, journal entries, posts, comments, strain reviews, likes and uploaded photos.
What we collect
We keep data collection to a minimum. The Site has no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, and no contact forms, so we do not collect names, emails, or payment details through the Site. The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us, for example if you email us directly. Beyond that, we and our providers process: anonymous usage analytics, a small amount of local storage on your device, and standard server logs (including IP address) handled by our hosting provider for security and delivery.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use Canabee so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, time on page, approximate location, device and browser type, and your IP address, which we configure to be anonymised. We use this only in aggregate to see what content is useful. You can opt out by blocking cookies or by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.
Cookies and local storage
We store two small functional values on your device: one to remember that you confirmed your age, and one to remember that you dismissed our app banner. These are not used to track you. The analytics and affiliate partners described here may set their own cookies, which you can control through your browser settings.
Affiliate partner cookies
When you click an affiliate link on Canabee and visit a third-party retailer, that retailer may set their own cookies on your device in accordance with their own privacy policy. We have no control over those cookies. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.
How we use information, and who we share it with
We use the limited information above only to operate, secure, and improve the Site, and to respond to you if you contact us. We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that help us run Canabee: our hosting and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare), our analytics provider (Google), and affiliate networks (such as Amazon) when you choose to click an affiliate link.
International processing
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries, whose data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. By using the Site you understand that your information may be processed in those locations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, or to opt out of certain processing, under laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and Canada’s PIPEDA. Because we collect little to no information that identifies you through the Site, we often will not hold data tied to you, but you can contact us at any time to ask about or exercise these rights.
Children
Canabee is intended only for adults of legal age for cannabis (18, 19, or 21 depending on your region), or the legal age for cannabis in their region, whichever is higher. The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Retention and security
We keep analytics data only as long as needed to understand how the Site is used, and we apply reasonable measures to protect any information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date below reflects the latest version, and continued use of the Site means you accept the current policy.
