What's My Starting Dose? Quiz

Five questions about your experience, your sensitivity and the evening you want. The answer is a conservative starting dose in milligrams, why it is that number, and three recipes that suit it.

Question 1 of 5

How much cannabis have you used before?

A conservative starting point from public-health guidance, not a medical recommendation. It never suggests more than 10 mg. Your body, your batch and your evening all vary; keep a note of how it lands.

Frequently asked questions

How many mg of THC should I take my first time?

2.5 mg, and Health Canada's consumer guidance says the same. Have one serving and wait a full two hours before deciding anything. The quiz starts everyone new to edibles there and only moves up with experience.

I smoke regularly. Can I start higher with edibles?

Not much. Inhaled tolerance does not carry over cleanly, because eaten THC is converted by the liver into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is stronger and lasts far longer. Most experienced smokers are surprised by 5 mg the first time they eat it.

Why does the quiz never suggest more than 10 mg?

Because 10 mg is the legal package cap in Canada for a reason: it is a full dose for most people. Anyone who genuinely needs more already knows their number and does not need a quiz. Anyone who does not should not find it here.

What if my starting dose does nothing?

Wait out the full two hours, ideally four, then try 2.5 mg more next time, not tonight. If honest tries at 5 and 7.5 mg do nothing, read why edibles might not be working; it is usually decarb or absorption, not you.
